ACRIA just launched the “Age is Not a Condom 2015” campaign! It’s designed to counter the myth that older adults are not sexually active, since we know that is simply not the case. Sex is an important part of healthy aging, and many adults have active sex lives well into their 70s, 80s, and beyond.
The 2015 campaign highlights the fact that older adults have different types of sex – whether casual, romantic, straight, gay, curious, or otherwise. It’s important to recognize that you can be sexually active at any age, and to remember that if you do have sex, being older does not protect you against STIs or HIV. Age is not a condom!
The campaign is now up at almost 40 bus shelters throughout New York City – most of them in neighborhoods that have high rates of HIV, in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. You’ll find the campaign up at some of these neighborhoods:
- Jackson Heights, Queens on Roosevelt Avenue
- Grand Concourse and Webster Avenue in the Bronx
- Malcolm X Boulevard in Brooklyn
- Adam Powell Junior Boulevard in Harlem
- Broadway in the Upper Manhattan
- Chelsea 8th Avenue and 23rd
